Technique - Filigree jewelry - part 1 - making filigree wire

 

In this tutorial I want to show you how I make my filigree wire. This is part 1 in my filigree series. I hope you enjoy!

What you will need to practice this technique:

Wire:

  • 0.3 mm (28 ga) wire

OR

  • 0.4 mm (26 ga) wire

OR

  • 0.6 mm (22 ga) wire 

The gauge all depends on what thickness and height you want the finished filigree wire to be.

Tools: 

  • Fine tipped flush cutters
  • Cordless drill OR Wire twisting tool
  • Torch
  • Soldering surface
  • Quenching bowl
  • Steel block
  • Chasing hammer OR - Rolling mill (this works much better)
